    Acoustic solution for shopping centers

    Acoustic solution for shopping centers

    Acoustic solution for shopping centers

Market, the place which everyone needs it and where we all visit every day Imagine the numbers of people crowded there, this boy shouts to take his order, another woman calls her neighbour by phone to share opinion, group of girls talk some nonsense and for sure do not forget, sellers hoot to attract customers.

However, many smaller arcades have been demolished, replaced with large centers or “malls”.

A shopping mall is a modern term, in which one or more buildings form a complex of shops representing merchandisers with interconnecting walkways that enable customers to walk from unit to unit, by the fact that connecting walkways are not owned by a single proprietor.

The size of shopping centers and malls continued to increase with approximately 220,000 m2, some of them have 8,600 parking spaces  and others have 350,000 m2. Currently, the largest mall in the world is in China with a gross floor area of 892,000 m2.

Shopping centers are frequented by numerous people not only for shopping activities but also for social and leisure purposes. The considerable size of some of the malls, with large circulation spaces, high ceilings and generally a large food court where large numbers of people gather, leads to elevated background noise and reverberation time values, which result in poor speech intelligibility in a noisy space so what is Acoustic solution for shopping centers.

Results of a study in shopping malls with a total area from 12,000 to 72,000 m2 show average RT (reverberation time) values between 1.7 and 3.2 s, and LAeq (sound loudness level) between 67 and 70 dB.

Noise occupational density in all shopping centers, indicating a fairly common acoustic environment for all malls. The level of occupancy noise showed a rather excessive value for acoustic comfort and well-being in shopping centers. Not Sound and noise in shopping malls only by the feeling of discomfort but also for “incompatibility” relatively to speech intelligibility.

When noise is high makes an acoustically unfavorable space, especially if it intensifies in frequency with the highest hearing sensitivity, between 1 and 4 kHz.

Of all the characteristics, the main negatives points for acoustics are number of floors, height and volume; gallery configuration linking the different spaces of the malls assisting in the spread of noise; reduced area of food courts concentrating people and centralizing activities and access; surface coatings with reflective materials (such as ceramic, marble or ceramic tiles) and glass surfaces; little or no application of absorbents materials and systems; noisy machines and equipments, little or nothing acoustically treated; carts without silent bearings and chairs and tables with worn rubber or without them producing noise when dragged. In contrast, the positive characteristics observed in some of the cases studied are: height and volume reduced; spatial configuration like long corridors, with little interaction between the spaces; large food courts so as not to agglomerate people, and consequently the noise. Other favorable characteristics detected that, in the absence, can also be taken as intervention proposals, include: acoustic treatment of the particular noise of machines and equipments through quieter cooling systems/ventilation/others; presence of rubber in the legs of tables and chairs; silent bearings in the carts; and especially lesser application of reflective materials over sound absorptive, for example, perforated panels and/or baffles in the ceiling, porous and fibrous materials in the decorative objects (tissues, cushioned) and on the walls (wood fiberboard agglomerate, etc.), as well as more areas with sofas and carpets. Note that these and many other examples can be considered for proper acoustic corrections.

In general, a minimal careful acoustical design can decrease the average RT up to 1.5 s, increase the average RASTI up to 0.10 and decrease the occupation background noise in 3 dB(A).

Therefore, succinctly: for Acoustic solution for shopping centers to reduce the reverberation of space through the type and shape of the surfaces and volume; increase sound absorption and reduce the effects of noise sources, in order to reduce ambient noise. Sound absorption of the environment is the basis of the best results of the acoustics of shopping centers. All these factors contribute for better speech intelligibility, better quality and comfort of space, consenting users to spend more time in shopping centers.

Moreover, you can see the acoustical solutions in shopping centers in Turkey, Bursa. Since, Bursa is crowded by the modern and acoustically designed shopping centers.

One of the acoustically designed centers is Sur-Yapı center, this shopping center as photos show has used the MDF wooden panels on the walls in the walkways in the slat shape with a small space between pieces which help in increasing the NRC rating to 0.80-1.0.

there is also MDF wooden suspending ceiling in each floor in combination of two shapes in the plain shape which has NRC approximately 0.46 and the other shape is the slat shape with NRC 0.80, this combination has a role in the Aesthetic and the Acoustic section.

Also, it used the shape of dome in the middle of the shopping center  which helps in reducing the noise by using the resonant cavity method because of  its concave shape to reflect the sound by delay time and this will canceling the echoes in the space, in addition the floor is ceramic that has an acoustically and thermally properties.

And, there are acoustical wooden seats in the halls and walkways give the shopping center a unique view and plays a role in the acoustic solution in the shopping centers.

Most of the shops in this shopping center use the acoustic panels in their shops especially the cafe-book which has the acoustic panel in different shapes.

you can notice special acoustically designed in Suryapı Cinemaximum cinema. its hall cinema has the design of classic Rockwool acoustic panels, its panels is classic Rockwool acoustic panels and seats in the cinema has also acoustical properties helps in reducing the noise

You can read more in detail about the acoustic solutions in cinema in our blog of Acoustima® acoustic panel by Seatup Turkey®:

in Bursa; you can see a different, unique and acoustically design in each shopping center like Carrefour shopping mall; AS merkezi shopping mall ;kent maydanı shopping mall and Özdilek shopping mall.

We live in a noisy world. And shopping is one of our noisy everyday experiences.

There are people who prefer peace and quiet. There are those with hearing problems. Those with a sensitivity to loud noise. There are elders who get stressed out by loud music. There are kids and youngsters whose hearing is at odds when the sound is too loud. In fact, there are tons of people who are not comfortable with loud noise in stores.

Of all the construction requirements which carry a particular project, perhaps the most ignored is Acoustics because the aesthetics almost always tends to overlap. However, these are old approaches that can no long happen. In the long run an acoustically bad space will have fewer customers than others better designed.

All-day Quiet Shopping. Quiet Night. Relaxing Shopping. Hush Night. The name alternatives are many. The core idea is to show empathy and love to all those customers who wish to be able to shop without the blasting, unnerving music.

For Acoustic solution for shopping centers Please, create some room for shoppers who crave a soothing and relaxing shopping experience. You are bound to be financially rewarded for such an inclusive and warm-hearted activity.

    Multi-purpose hall

    Multi-purpose hall

Building a new construction is something very costly especially ones that are huge, luxe, and have goal to their own application. Imagine all contributor in a building ‘like theatre’ engineers, workers, materials, ground, furniture…. Etc.

Ones which need a specific sound performance utilization like opera hall,
theatre, cinema, concert, and speech each one needs its own design for
structure and added acoustic panels because they differ in their behaviour to sound like reverberation time, clarity, warmness, and other acoustic
parameters. These acoustical characteristics of a hall depend on cubic volume, interior shape, density of materials and on surfaces and size, spacing and number of the chairs, carpets or other sound absorbing materials.

The acoustical quantity that can be measured fundamentally is the reverberation time.
As a reference for the acoustic design, this specifies the preferred mid-
frequency reverberation time depending on the type of music (amplified
music, loud acoustic music and quiet acoustic music) as a function of room
    volume.
Also the study of Acoustical characteristics of a hall either before or after
construction and describing the architectural features of a multipurpose hall which is used for lectures, musical performances, and other cultural events are very important.

For example, the hall for amplified music has a volume around 1800 m3 and the corresponding recommended reverberation time is 0.7 – 0.9 s. The hall for acoustic music has a volume of around 3300 m3 and the corresponding reverberation time for loud music is 1.4 – 1.8 s.

For quiet music, the reverberation time could be longer than 1.8 s, up to about 2.2 s.

The following conclusion can be drawn: hall which is too small (volume, height) and has too short reverberation time to work well for acoustic music, and the limited size of the stage will limit the hall to small ensembles applying sound reinforcing equipment.

In other words, the hall will be best suited for amplified music, even though more bass absorption would be feasible. The reverberation time will be suited for speech as well. The hall will be acoustically satisfying for other planned activities such as children theatre, debates and authors reading aloud.

Important success factors for achieving satisfying room acoustics within these halls will be as follows:

    • Fine tuning of the diffusing/curved walls in the multipurpose hall.
optimising the bass absorption in particular (stiffness of curved plates, depth of cavity and amount of mineral wool in the cavity).
    • Choosing sound-absorbing curtains of high quality in the multipurpose hall of
the library; read thick/heavy curtains with a generous cavity between the curtain and the glass walls, again in order to achieve sufficient bass absorption.

It is observed that the measured and simulated RT values have better
agreement. This indicates that the decay is completely linear and the hall has attained a satisfactory diffuse sound field. The acoustical parameters and the materials used have resulted in deciding the acoustical quality of the hall.

For profit, utility, efficiency, and of course economy destinations. Multi-
purpose hall is designed to reach the perfect sound performance for many
implementations. It changes its shape to fit sound conditions that are used for.
In addition to this acoustic panels can appear/disappear or change its angle to reflect more/fewer acoustic waves due to their necessity.

    Acoustic solution for cinema

    Acoustic solution for cinema

From past to now until the next hundred years or more, cinema stills the
entertainment for all ages and inclinations which strongly needs a clear sound reaching the listener’s ear. And we all want a convenient, favourable, and pleasing sound. But What should intender do, then?
Figure out the best locations for the screen, seating, AV components and
speakers and determine what type of acoustical treatments can be used to help improve the sound.

Let us focus on the situation of sound wave in the cinema hall.
Sound waves will travel from the speakers and bounce off of just about any flat surface in a room. The ceiling, walls, floor, etc. Contained within a cube room, it is more likely for standing waves to occur. ”A standing wave is a low- frequency resonance (reinforcement of sound by reflection) caused by a source wave colliding with a reflected wave of the same or similar frequency”.

So, it should be mitigated because they can cause three different acoustical
    issues:

    • An area of high pressure where there is a very noticeable increase in volume.
    • A resonating sound wave. Sounds extending for longer than they were
      intended.
    • An area of low pressure where there is a very noticeable decrease in volume.
Even the most expensive sound system available – resulting in poor quality with
hard to make out dialogue and exaggerated bass response.
There are several golden rules which should be applied to the design of the room to ensure the best possible audio experience.
How do Acoustima® acoustic panel by Seatup Turkey® provide Acoustic solution for cinema:
First of all, sound transmission occurs through doors and windows so there is always just one small door in the corner of the cinema.
With regard to shape, Go with the rectangle space. Practically speaking, you’ll have better seating and furniture placement options. Technically speaking, rectangular spaces lend themselves to better sound than square rooms that can create annoying resonances and other sonic problems.
In order to avoid echoes completely, the surface shapes must be created so as to diffuse or absorb the incident sounds. Multiple reflections between two parallel planes may cause flutter echoes. Although it is easy to avoid them by making the two planes non-parallel or the surface undulated.

About size, there are so many different recommended ratios for size out there that deciding on which one is “right” can be difficult so any one can offer good performance.

    Other important issues:

Sound waves and acoustic reflections can influence essentially sound from the speakers should not reflect back on the same path but dissipate naturally, which can otherwise cause a muddled or bass-heavy sound.

room structure: the walls should be constructed closer together in the front

(where the display will be located) and further apart near the back of the room.

This will help tremendously with the acoustics of the room. Sound waves

typically bounce more when they meet a 90-degree corner of a room.

After designing size and shape of the structure, the next basic step for Acoustic solution for cinema is Insulation.

Sound is transmitted mostly through walls and floors by setting the entire

structure into vibration. This vibration generates new sound waves of reduced intensity on the other side. The passage of sound into one room of a building from a source located in another room or outside the building is termed ”sound transmission”. Sound insulation describes the reduction in sound across a partition. The sound insulation across a good conventional, lightweight, office to office construction is typically in the order of 45 dB. That happens by adding acoustic materials which have high sound absorptivity in the construction phase.

Acoustima® acoustic panel by Seatup Turkey® use other tools to get the best possible sound. Which is the final and core step, acoustic panels.

A full outer skin of Acoustima® acoustic panel by Seatup Turkey® sound

deadening can ensure sound does not leak into adjoining rooms which has the advantage of ensuring sound levels are maintained in the room.

Fortunately, there are several ways to absorb the sound and mend it in the

lounge for a unique sound experience, as Acoustima® acoustic panel by Seatup Turkey® we improve products to solve this kind of problems (Acoustic solution for cinema).

By using acoustic panels which make a special role in blocking, absorbing and minimizing the sound waves. So that treat echo and reflection.

As it turned out, acoustic panels or acoustic fiber can be fixed on floors, walls,
ceilings, and furniture. Using available surfaces to benefit from the place.
However, one of the important cinema projects that Acoustima® acoustic panel by Seatup Turkey® improves is the Cinetima Cinema in Bursa Özdilek parkı. In this cinema, as the photos show, one of the halls its wall has been covered with high-acoustical properties wooden panels in sloping shape and there is LED light between panels by Acoustima® acoustic panel by Seatup Turkey®.
Moreover, Acoustima® acoustic panel by Seatup Turkey® has added the
acoustical carpet and doors. In addition to the comfortable design of the seats which has also acoustical properties which you can find in the cinema and movie catalogue:

the other hall cinema has mostly the same design but different type of acoustic panels, its panels is classic Rockwool acoustic panels which installed by Acoustima® acoustic panel by Seatup Turkey®.
The reception hall has totally different, modern and aesthetic design especially the design of the STRETCH LED CEILING which Acoustima® acoustic panel by Seatup Turkey® installed and you can find it in its catalogue also:

also; added Acoustima® acoustic panel by Seatup Turkey® the seats in the
reception hall with acoustical properties which has the circular shape that helps in saving the space.

In Bursa, you can notice two more special acoustically designed like
Cinemaximum cinema in Suryapı and Carrefour shopping malls where these cinemas’ reception halls have special metallic suspending ceiling with acoustical properties. Also, Avşar cinema in AS Merkezi and Kent maydani shopping malls where these cinemas have colorful acoustically designed cinema halls.
